Spring Project Updates

I didn’t get a ton done this past weekend, but we still should be in good shape for the bedroom set delivery this weekend.  I’ve got just two walls of baseboard left to paint in the master bedroom.  I finished up the trim and doors on the closet.

As I mentioned recently Beth proposed putting my old 42″ plasma that is currently on the dresser up above the closet doors.  I measured a few times and ordered a mount last week.  The mount showed up on Friday and a messy 4 hours ensued. ..

What this picture doesn’t show is the pain in my ass it was to mount this thing dead center over the closet.  Conveniently, the one stud that fell under the mount was dead center…right under the built in level, so there was no way to screw it into that stud.  I ended up having to cut open the entire back side of the header and put some additional blocking in to support the mount.  I was able to get the mount to anchor in 4 places, so hopefully it is in there good enough haha.  I also had to run power to an outlet in the ceiling of the closet for the TV and cable box to plug into so that all of the wires were going to be concealed. Thankfully there was an outlet on the other side of the closet wall.  I was able to fish a wire up through the top of the box and tie in there.  I have to do this again if we want a TV up on the wall in the office, but oh well, it wasn’t that bad believe it or not.

Once I had the mount up I called for my spotter, aka my lovely fiance Beth.  I told her I was ready and she asked what she needed to do.  I told her to just make sure I don’t kill myself going up the ladder with the TV.  As we later googled, the TV does indeed weigh 67.4 lbs, which well is about the weight of one Huey:

(yes he’s asleep sitting upright.)

At any rate, after a scary 5 or so minutes lifting and rejockeying the TV and frantically asking Beth to look at either side of the mount to see if I had it latched on correctly, I cautiously stepped backwards to review the glory of my sweat and drywall covered work:

So the mount tilts 15 degrees forward, which is pretty much perfect for viewing while laying in bed, which is really the only time this TV is used.  I contemplated stepping down to a 32″ but what in the world was I going to do with this 5 yr old 42″?  No one was gona buy it from me and I really didn’t want to buy another TV, so there you have it.  Amazing thing is you can change channels via the comcast box with the closet doors closed, so I don’t even need to get one of those IR repeaters.  I need a few cord keepers and wire staples for inside the ceiling of the closet, but all in all it makes the room feel alot bigger not having the TV taking up valuable space on the dresser.  Hopefully we can put a mirror on the new dresser instead.

We kind of have taken a step back from the office temporarily as the second monitor and hardware are on their way this week.  I should finish the desk and everything up this weekend.  I did however polish the desktop with car polish as I said I had planned to:

Don’t mind the wires, I just stuck them in the brick to keep them off the top while I worked.  I was skeptical of the car polish at first, but it really did a great job giving it a nice final sheen.  Really looking forward to getting the hardware and some chairs and calling it a day.

Stay tuned.

Locust Point Rowhouse’s New Resident…

Well next to nothing got done at the house this weekend, but for once there may be a legitimate reason…

Meet Huey. Or if you will, Hubert.

Huey is a 10 week old English Bulldog.  He enjoys sleeping, breathing heavily, and chewing on shoes/feet/fingers. Beth and I drove up to Lancaster Saturday morning to pick him up.  After getting lost for about an hour trying to find the woman’s house who was selling him,  we had a smooth ride back to the city and were back here by lunch time.

As expected, I managed to keep him off the furniture for all of a couple hours.  Thankfully he is not tall enough to get up on his own.  Last night was pretty rough as he cried most of the night until I came downstairs and slept on the floor near him.  Hopefully he will get used to his crate soon.

Seeing as how I will likely be sleeping downstairs on the couch for atleast the first couple weeks, my Dad is going to come down and help me finish the stairs.  My brother who is still in college at Towson may move in shortly as well to help me with the mortgage.

Although Latrobe Park is literally right across the street, I’m thinking I may have to replace some of the concrete on the back patio with grass so Huey has an easier place to go to the bathroom.  Hope to have some house related things posted this week.  I’m thinking the master bath is the next thing I ought to post before and afters of.

Stay tuned.
