Kitchen Stained Glass Transom

I had been looking forward to this day for a while. The stained glass window for the kitchen transom was dropped off today. The glass looks amazing and truly is going to give my kitchen a unique touch to it.

The window was done by Terraza Stained Glass. Donna and her husband Dan were great to work with and the window was really reasonably priced for a custom piece. Donna came and made initial measurements, ordered the materials, and came and final measured the opening with her husband before piecing it all together. I can’t wait to take some pictures of it installed. Here are some pictures of the glass that Donna sent me before meeting with me tonight:

If you are interested in a stained glass window or transom, check out their website at:

They are located right on Woodall St. in Locust Point. I would definately recommend them if you are interested in a custom piece.

I’ll be away for a few days but hope to finish priming on Monday.

Stay tuned.

Priming Alone

With my Dad out of town and me having to be at work again, I have been trying to knock out as much painting as I can after work. I seem to be able to make it until about 7 without dying of hunger or exhaustion. I have slowly worked my way back to the kitchen. There is a wall or two left in there and obviously the ceiling. My goal is to try and get almost all the vertical walls done before the weekend and then try and knock the rest out with the power roller Monday after the beach.

I let the hardwood floor guy know he is good to go for next week and hopefully I will be seeing my stained glass window soon. For now here is a brief update:

Last I heard, the electricians would be at the house this weekend at some point while I am away to begin putting in receptacles and hopefully getting some of the recessed lights on for me. My fans are purchased and in the house and the vanity and island lights are on their way. I am really trying my hardest to be in the house July 1, but we shall see…

Freshening Up the Back Yard

I spent some time this week while I couldn’t work in the house working on the garage wall that you can see from the kitchen. Before it was a complete eye sore and was not even secured to the rest of the garage. It was covered with asphalt shingles and was generally in bad shape.

All the shingles off, rotted boards repaired and paint stripper applied to the I-beam:

I-beam sanded once and first few rows of cedar shingles up:

More progress:

Shingles finished, I-beam primed (looks pretty good in that color I think), door and window primed:

I am waiting for my Maryland flag stained glass transom to go in above the kitchen door before I decide what to do color wise with the shingles, door/window, and I-beam.

All in all I think its a huge improvement. Just need some privacy fences, to finish my furniture project, and a grill and I should have a passable patio for the time being.

Stay tuned…

Drywall Finishing

Please excuse the lack of posts during the end of this ordeal (directly at you Kyle), I have been really busy and I managed to leave my camera in my Mom’s car after helping my brother move.

There are now two coats of mud on the walls. They will return Monday to sand. I hope to start priming the walls Monday evening after work. I’ll post another set of pictures of things I’ve done in the “back yard” in another post.

Anyways on to the pictures…in no particular order. These were taking over two days of mudding.

Bar area again…I think the bulkhead and lights turned out really nice. Can’t wait to bring the bar in from the garage.

Drywall Day 1: Hanging

The drywall guys were already at the house at 6:50 am as I drove down Fort Ave to get a coffee. They finally started around 7:30 and had the entire house hung by lunch time. Pretty amazing watching them work. They put more sheets up in 30 min then I probably could have done in a day. I was shocked at how much the apparent curves in the ceilings were hidden by the drywall. The only place there is even a noticeable wave is in the master bedroom…I’m hoping it can be hidden but its above the exposed brick, so we shall see. All in all I was impressed. They are supposed to trash out the house tomorrow morning and begin the finishing process.

I picked out tile this afternoon for the bathrooms and kitchen. I am pretty pleased and can’t wait to see get the tile.

Anyways on to the all important pictures…
